SUSTAINABILITY
Do you have any questions about what DHL is doing to help protect the environment? Here are our FAQs to help you find the answer to your question. If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, get in touch with our team for further assistance.
How is DHL reducing their carbon footprint?
DHL has a target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 and has set out milestones along the way, such as reducing our greenhouse gas emissions from 39 million tonnes CO2e to under 29 million by 2030.
To do this, we have introduced new shipping solutions such as delivering parcels on foot, by e-bikes, electric vehicles and by boat on the River Thames. We are also encouraging our employees to become GoGreen specialists and undertake climate protection activities such as planting trees and becoming greener in their everyday life.
How can I reduce carbon when sending a parcel?
When sending a parcel, there are a few things you can do to help reduce carbon emissions. The packaging you use can make a big difference – almost a third of all plastic produced is for packaging and only 14% will be recycled, according to a report by the World Economic Forum and Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
If you're sending a parcel with DHL Service Point, you can use our free recyclable packaging. Or, if you're sending through DHLitNow where you use your own packaging, we recommend using a biodegradable and recyclable option.
Choose packaging to match the size of your items so that you don't need much, if any, parcel filler (such as packing peanuts). Most packaging filler is instantly thrown away into landfill, so where possible minimise its use and make sure you use a biodegradable option.
