We are delighted to be the Official Logistics Partner for Rugby World Cup 2015 – and today marks 100 days to go until kick-off! With 20 teams, 13 stadiums and over 2 million tickets sold we certainly have our work cut out for us, but we’re ready to rise to the challenge!
DHL has a longstanding commitment to rugby across the world: we supported the British & Irish Lions 2013 Australia tour, sponsored the South African Rugby Union team, the DHL Stormers, and have a long-standing partnership with Harlequins.
Coveted by the world’s best players and seen by millions of fans, the Webb Ellis Cup is one of the game’s most instantly recognisable icons. DHL has already been on the journey of a lifetime delivering the famous Webb Ellis Cup from former trophy holders New Zealand, Australia and South Africa to 2015 host nation England.
With the logistics support of DHL the trophy will now start a new 100-day tour of the UK and Ireland today, counting down to the 2015 tournament, arriving at Twickenham Stadium on 18 September - just in time for the Opening Ceremony. Nearly 300 events are planned across the UK, giving all fans the chance to get close to the trophy for which 20 nations will be competing for come September. DHL will showcase the Webb Ellis Cup to employees and customers at nine dedicated events throughout the UK and our first stop will be at the DHL Edinburgh Service Centre tomorrow.
As Official Logistics Partner, DHL will support Rugby World Cup Limited (RWCL) and tournament organisers England Rugby 2015 throughout the Tournament. This will include freight logistics for the 20 participating teams – those travelling to England, as well as the host team – then on to the training bases and 13 match venues across the country. The equipment to be transported will include an estimated 1,400 balls, 200 kicking tees and 200 tackle bags - we will truly be delivering rugby to the world!
As the Official Logistics Partner for Rugby World Cup 2015, we’re going to be sharing all the action with you, including offering you the chance to win tickets - so watch this space!
