DHL has over 30 years experience in delivering motorsports logistics and we’ve been Official Logistics Partner to Formula 1 since 2004.
In association with Formula One Management (FOM), DHL assists to deliver solutions for the logistic needs of all of the team and the Grands Prix as a whole, including the cars and their equipment, the fuel and the TV broadcasting equipment. Our behind-the-scenes efforts to get all of this to the circuit is something we like to call the “race behind the race”!
Formula 1 equipment travels by sea, land and air. Did you know, a complete paddock fills the cargo holds of six jumbo jets, and every Formula 1® team transports roughly 30 tons to each overseas race? For the European races, this figure rises to between 35 and 40 tons. The teams are completely self-sufficient – they bring their own water bottles, refrigerators, cabling and even their own power generators.
Formula 1 logistics is a full-time job for almost 365 days of the year. The basic planning with FOM continues until late January. Soon thereafter, the teams dispatch their first sea freight containers to the venue where the season opener is to be staged. For DHL, a Grand Prix weekend starts nine days before the actual race. This is when the teams take receipt of their consignments. And as soon as the chequered flag comes down, the pit crews immediately start dismantling the garages, working through the night from Sunday to Monday on packing everything up. By Tuesday, most of the equipment will have arrived back at the factory or at the next circuit.
This year the Formula 1 circus visits 19 race circuits around the world, and once again Silverstone plays host to the FIA Formula One World Championship when it arrives in the UK on July 5th.
To celebrate the occasion, we’re giving you the chance to win a pair of Grandstand tickets to the 2015 FORMULA 1 BRITISH GRAND PRIX so enter our competition now.
The competition closed on 7th June 2015.
